Kids Yoga Classes
-
Postnatal Yoga (6 weeks to Crawlers)
Yoga practiced with your baby is a powerful way to connect with your new child. In this class, many of the asanas (poses) are geared towards helping Mommy reclaim her physique. Gentle baby asanas and massages are also incorporated to help Mommy learn how to calm and teach basic motor development to her baby. Postnatal Yoga offers a wonderful opportunity to join or create a community of new mothers and friends with similar healthy goals and parenting styles.
-
Bye-Bye Bump Core Yoga (6 weeks to Crawlers)
This class offers new moms an intense yoga workout while remaining close to their new beans. As with "mommy matinees," Bye-Bye Bump Core Yoga allows mom to enjoy an intense workout for herself and not have to leave her baby at home. The Vinyasa flow yoga class will focus on asanas (poses) that help to rebuild your core and reclaim your pre-baby physique within a yoga environment. Svasana included! New beans ages 6 weeks up until crawling are welcome to watch mom say "bye-bye" to her bump.
-
WeeMassage (Birth to Crawlers)
Created by Robbin Schwartz, WeeMassage will teach you ways to connect to your infant through all the senses, but, most importantly, through touch. We will look at ways to be present to our babies' needs, and learn how to respond with respect to the wisdom of each baby's individual development. You will learn appropriate, therapeutic strokes for each area of the body, as well as ways to bring body awareness to your baby, without overstimulation. Classes include nursery rhymes and songs and written materials covering all class content.
-
Me & My Bean Yoga (Crawlers)
In this class, the littlest of Yogis are encouraged to explore movement through song, play, movement and stories. The class has a lighthearted approach to direction-taking and flows between structured and unstructured activities. A consistent class structure each week will help these little beans to learn and grow. Parent or caregiver participation is required.
-
Me & My Bean Yoga (Walkers Under 2)
This class will introduce the most basic yoga postures to children in a fun, playful way. Musical instruments, developmental props and catchy songs will enhance your bean's yoga experience. Through repetition and consistent class structure, your little bean's yoga practice will begin to bud.Parent or caregiver participation is required.
-
Me & My Bean Yoga (2-3 Years, 2-4 Years)
This class appeals to parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and adult caregivers that seek a fun and mutually enjoyable way to bond with their little yogi. Class moves at an energetic pace to keep up with your toddler's imagination! Children at this age learn best through simple hands-on exercises, use of fun props and the repetition of songs, games and playful basic yoga poses. These classes uniquely create the foundation for a healthy and lifelong bonding activity and connection. No prior yoga experience is necessary. Parent or caregiver participation is required.
-
Mini-Bean Yoga (3-5 Years)
These classes are extremely imaginative and creatively introduce all age-appropriate poses and activities. Classes incorporate easily understood explanations of breathing techniques, yoga poses and concepts related to focus and concentration all while maintaining a fun and playful environment. As some children may be stronger or more flexible than others, we often remind mini-beans that "yoga is a practice, not a perfect." Mini-Bean Yoga classes end with time for your mini-beans to lie down, relax their bodies and minds and receive a calming foot rub (their favorite part of class).
-
Enrichment Yoga (3-5 Years)
In this calm, grounding, and playful class atmosphere, your child will be exposed to integrative activities, exercises and games. Enrichment Yoga classes aim to enhance your child's body awareness, balance and coordination, as well as build muscle tone and strength. Mind-body activities help children develop sensory integration skills including sustained levels of focused attention, self-locomotion, and planning and general organizational skills. Breathing techniques are incorporated that help children self-soothe and regulate their minds. Our trained instructors focus on each child's individual needs while cultivating a class environment where kids can learn, grow and thrive. Parent or caregiver participation is required.
-
Siblings Yoga (3-8 Years)
Yoga practiced as a family is a wonderful way to instill cooperation, communication and respect for each other. Yoga has been shown to even help mitigate sibling rivalries or difficult family dynamics. In this specialized class, we offer an opportunity for two or more of your children to learn a healthy life-long activity to do together. Due to the wide age range between siblings, this kids yoga class will combine physically challenging and creative yoga poses with playful games, props, stories and songs. At the end of each Siblings Yoga class, attention will be given to simple meditation activities and relaxation (including our ever-popular foot massages!).
-
Bean Yoga (6-9 Years)
Bean Yoga classes give your child the opportunity to learn more challenging and creative poses, while maintaining a playful, fun class experience through games, props and songs. Classes focus on building self-confidence, physical strength and concentration. Partner poses, basic inversions and beginning arm balances are explored, and poses are held for longer amounts of time with a basic introduction to alignment. Children are encouraged to freely express their individuality while learning the basic yoga principles of respect for others (yamas) and themselves (niyamas).
-
Family Yoga & Meditation (5-9 Years)
Yoga practiced as a family is a wonderful way to instill cooperation, communication and respect for each other. It is also a fantastic means to mitigate sibling rivalries as emphasis is placed on teamwork and collaboration. This specialized class is geared toward the child with parent participation required, though, no adult yoga experience is necessary. At the end of each Family Yoga & Meditation class, special attention is given to the importance of relaxation and basic meditation techniques are taught.
-
Tween Yoga (10-12 Years)
Our unique Tween curriculum uses yoga to help bridge the gap between child and teenager. Tween Yoga classes incorporate a more adult approach to the yoga poses, breath and meditation, while encouraging the individuality and creativity of each Tween. Classes introduce more complicated poses that require a greater attention to full-body coordination. More mature explanations of yoga concepts and techniques to use off the mat are introduced as well. Tween Yoga classes often naturally encourage discussion on physical and developmental issues and explore problem solving through yoga concepts.
-
Restorative Tween Yoga (10-12 Years)
Our unique Tween curriculum uses yoga to help bridge the gap between child and teenager. We've found that modern-day NYC Tweens express a high level of stress related to exams, schools, standardized tests, family dynamics and social pressure. In response, we've created this brand new Restorative Tween Yoga class to provide a quieter physical experience of yoga for the purposes of relaxation and stress release. Classes will incorporate supportive yoga props to allow Tweens to hold poses for longer periods of time and to fully release tension in their bodies. Through this specialized class, we hope to create a stress-free environment for some much-needed deep relaxation, focused breathing and meditation for Tweens.
-
Teen Yoga (13-15 Years)
This class is an extension of our Tween curriculum. Greater emphasis is placed on correct alignment in poses and more vigorous flow. Play time is ample in these fun classes with inversions (handstand), arm balances (flying crow), and backbends that help build strength and flexibility. As being a teenager can be a stressful time, Teen Yoga classes will also focus on restorative poses and meditation to encourage relaxation and self-awareness. Class time may also be allotted for questions and discussion.
